Your Vending Snack Has Been Discontinued: Plan the Replacement

Spread the love

When a supplier discontinues a popular vending snack, the nearest-looking replacement is not automatically the best option. Treat the change as a small product decision covering customer preference, machine compatibility and accurate information.

Confirm the supply situation

Ask whether the product is permanently discontinued, temporarily unavailable or changing pack format. Record the supplier’s answer and the remaining stock you can actually use. Do not announce a permanent replacement based on one missed delivery. Check whether other sites depend on the same item so the purchasing team can coordinate the change.

Define what the replacement must do

List the relevant features: product type, pack size, price position and customer preferences. Keep dietary requirements separate and verify them using the new product’s exact information. A similar name does not establish matching ingredients. Choose a small number of candidates that meet the site need rather than ordering a large case of the first available alternative.

Check fit and presentation

Have the operator test the proposed pack in the installed machine’s approved configuration. Manufacturer product information can establish the model family, but it does not prove that every snack pack will dispense reliably. Check the selection description, price, stock code and product information together. Keep the old and new packs clearly separated during the transition.

Use the remaining stock deliberately

Agree when the old item will be replaced and avoid mixing variants under one unclear selection description. Record customer feedback and performance for the new product over a defined review period. If it does not work, use the evidence to choose the next option. Update purchasing and refill instructions so a discontinued item does not keep appearing on routine orders.
