Imported Vending Snacks: Check the English Food Information

Spread the love

An imported snack can add variety to a vending range, but attractive packaging is not enough to make it ready for sale in Ireland. Check the actual individual pack and its food information before agreeing a trial order.

Check the language on the pack

FSAI states that food information in Ireland must be provided in English. Inspect the product you will actually stock rather than relying on an English description on a wholesaler’s website. If the required information is missing or unclear, ask the supplier for a compliant product and clarification before sale. A familiar brand can use different packaging in different markets.

Read the complete information

Review the product name, ingredients, allergen information, date mark and storage instructions on the supplied pack. Check that any additional label is readable and does not obscure other required information. Do not improvise your own translation of safety-related information. Refer uncertain labelling questions to the supplier or FSAI guidance rather than relying on a customer to scan an online translation.

Update the selection accurately

Confirm the exact flavour and pack size with the operator, including any difference from a similarly named product already sold. Keep the machine’s description and product record aligned with the stocked version. A photograph of another market’s pack can create confusion even where the name looks similar. Arrange a dispensing test if the wrapper or dimensions differ from an established line.

Retain supplier details and review the trial

Keep the order details and relevant batch information through the normal food-stock process. Start with a quantity that can be checked and reviewed rather than committing to a large unfamiliar range. Ask customers whether the choice and information are clear, without making unsupported nutritional claims. If a later delivery changes the label or recipe, repeat the checks before refilling.
