Vegan and Gluten-Free Vending Snacks: Check Different Claims
A vegan label and a gluten-free label answer different questions. When choosing a vending snack, do not use one as shorthand for the other. For operators, the practical task is to keep the product, its current packaging and any shelf description consistent.

Read the claim on the actual pack
Look for the information relevant to your own requirement on the product you will receive. Do not infer gluten-free status from plant-based branding, an oat illustration or the name of a vending category.
The FSAI sets out specific conditions for gluten-free statements. A general lifestyle description is not a substitute for that product information.
Keep allergen information separate
The FSAI has also warned that vegan-labelled foods should not be assumed free from animal-derived allergens. Read the ingredients and allergen information rather than relying only on the front of the pack.
If the relevant information is not available before purchase, ask the operator for the current product details. Avoid making a selection on the basis of an old website photograph or a colleague’s memory of a similar bar.
Check substitutions during refill
For the operator, a replacement flavour or pack can require a new information check. Do not leave a gluten-free shelf label beside a substituted product unless the description remains supported for that exact item.
Use a short stock sheet that identifies the supplier product, pack size and current label information. Tell the refill team when the approved selection changes. Keep generic category names from making promises that apply only to some items.
Make the customer journey clear
A useful selection gives customers enough information to distinguish products without implying that every item suits every dietary need. Keep descriptions readable and place support details where people can find them.
Review questions received at the site: if customers repeatedly ask whether vegan means gluten-free, improve the wording. Clear labelling is more useful than adding broad claims to make the range sound healthier. For individual dietary decisions, rely on the current product information and appropriate professional advice where needed.
