Vending Machine Electricity Cost: Build a Site Estimate

Vending machine electricity cost is easiest to estimate when you separate energy use from electricity price. A machine’s maximum wattage does not tell you its daily bill. Instead, use a suitable energy figure and apply your own tariff. Then check the estimate against actual use after installation.

Choose the right energy figure

Start by asking the supplier for energy data for the exact model and configuration. Note the test conditions and whether the figure is daily or annual. A chilled snack machine, a hot drinks machine and an uncooled locker perform different jobs, so they are not direct comparisons.

Maximum power describes a possible electrical load. Energy, measured in kilowatt-hours, describes consumption over time. Refrigeration and heating may cycle rather than run continuously at their maximum rating.

Calculate vending machine electricity cost

Use this basic calculation: energy consumed in kWh multiplied by the applicable unit price per kWh. For a simple illustration, suppose measured consumption is 4 kWh per day and the unit price is €0.30 per kWh. That gives €1.20 per day, or €36 over 30 days.

These are invented example inputs, not a machine specification, market tariff or supplier quote. Replace both with your own figures. Also account for VAT and any other applicable charges consistently. A standing charge for an existing site connection should not automatically be assigned in full to one machine.

If your tariff varies by time of day, one average rate may hide the difference. Use interval data where available, or clearly label the estimate as approximate.

Measure under normal conditions

Plan a representative measurement period with the supplier or a competent electrician. Use metering suitable for the equipment and circuit. Include normal opening hours, customer demand and refill activity.

• Record the measurement dates and operating hours.
• Note unusual heat, closures or heavy demand.

Review cost without disrupting the service

Ask about approved lighting and energy-saving settings for the model. Keep required ventilation clear and follow the maintenance instructions. Do not disconnect refrigerated equipment overnight or alter temperature settings without checking product requirements and manufacturer guidance.

Finally, compare electricity alongside equipment, servicing, stock and payment costs. A low energy estimate does not by itself prove that a machine suits your location.
